Community Outreach

Connecting with Veterans Where They Are

At Fire Missions Veteran Services, we believe that healing and transformation begin with connection. Our Community Outreach program is designed to bring vital resources, hope, and human connection directly to veterans—especially those living in rural areas of Kentucky, where services are often limited or non-existent. Our outreach efforts are rooted in compassion, action, and a deep commitment to “Leave No Veteran Behind.”

Meeting Veterans in Their Communities

Many veterans face barriers to accessing the benefits and services they’ve earned—from transportation limitations to a lack of awareness. That’s why our team regularly attends a wide range of events across the region to meet veterans face-to-face and get them the help they need. You’ll find us at:

  • County and State Fairs
  • Parades and Public Festivals
  • Veteran Resource Fairs
  • Local and State Veteran Support Events
  • Community Partnership Events

At each event, we set up a tent and information booth complete with brochures, applications, contact information, and knowledgeable staff and volunteers ready to help veterans—or anyone who knows a veteran in need—access critical services.

Resources We Provide On-Site

At every outreach event, we offer one-on-one conversations and printed materials to help connect veterans with:

  • VA Enrollment and Eligibility Services
  • Disability Benefits Applications and Appeals
  • Veteran Healthcare Eligibility Guidance
  • TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) Treatment Resources
  • PTSD Awareness and Counseling Referrals
  • Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Recovery Support
  • Suicide Prevention Resources and Hotlines
  • Death and Burial Benefits Information
  • Housing Assistance and Case Management

We ensure each veteran knows they are seen, valued, and not alone—and that we are ready to walk with them through every step of accessing the care they deserve.

Special Holiday Outreach Events

Our outreach doesn’t stop at informational booths. We host and participate in special events throughout the year, honoring and serving veterans in meaningful ways:

  • Memorial Day – In partnership with local veteran organizations, we place flags on the graves of fallen service members in solemn remembrance.
  • Fourth of July –We host community events that celebrate freedom, family, and patriotic unity.
  • Veterans Day –We honor and recognize local veterans with ceremonies and outreach events.
  • Thanksgiving & Christmas – Through programs like Operation Santa, we provide meals, gifts, and support to veteran families in need.
  • Easter – We hold community events and care package drives to bring joy and encouragement during the spring season.

These holiday events deepen our community ties and remind veterans that they are not forgotten—not during times of crisis, and certainly not during times of celebration.

A Growing Impact Across Kentucky

While our outreach team is based in Shelby County, our efforts extend statewide. We aim to participate in 1–2 events per month in local counties and expand our reach into underserved, rural areas across Kentucky.
With more volunteers and community partners, we can stretch even further—bringing services and support to areas that have long gone overlooked.
